This park covers over 20 hectares of dry tropical forest and is home to many animals. Inside the park you can visit the mystical lagoon known as Charco Verde with its emerald green waters. This spectacular green colour arises due to a large growth of algae. In the past the indigenous people used this area as a place of prayer. They made offerings to the Gods and Goddesses and also practiced sacrifices. Today it is a tranquil peaceful place where you can admire nature in all its glory.
One of the paths you may want to travel on takes you around the lagoon and to the beach from where you can admire the view onto the island of Quiste and the Maderas volcano. The Charco Verde hotel organizes outings in boats or kayaks to the island of Quiste. This natural park is situated in direction of Moyogalpa at a distance of about 20km from El Zopilote. The road is in a good condition so you may choose between going by bike, scooter or motorbike or otherwise by bus. Ask to be let off at the entrance to the park. Tickets for the park can be bought at the entrance.
