Ometepe Island offers countless natural wonders for adventurous travelers. The majestic San Ramón Waterfall in Ometepe stands out beautifully. This impressive 50-meter waterfall cascades down the southern slope of Maderas volcano. We highly recommend adding this stunning natural attraction to your travel itinerary. It perfectly complements your stay in our eco hostel accommodations.

A Self-Guided Adventure in the Jungle

Please note a very important detail about this specific activity. At El Zopilote Eco Hostel, we do not organize guided tours to this waterfall. Instead, we enthusiastically encourage guests to explore this beautiful spot completely on their own.

You will find the trail very clear and easy to navigate without a local guide. You can hike through the dense cloud forest at your own comfortable pace. Many travelers enjoy the pure independence of a self-guided nature hike. You will spot howler monkeys, colorful butterflies, and exotic tropical birds along the way. The refreshing natural pool at the base perfectly rewards your hiking efforts.

How to Reach the Waterfall Trailhead

Getting to the trailhead requires a little bit of planning. The entrance sits on the southern side of the island near San Ramón village. You can easily reach this area by renting a suitable vehicle. We highly recommend using the reliable scooter & motorbike rental service located near our entrance.

Riding a scooter offers the best way to enjoy the scenic coastal road. Once you arrive at the biological station, you pay a small entrance fee. From there, the hiking trail takes about two hours to reach the cascading water.

You should definitely pack plenty of drinking water and high-energy snacks. Wear sturdy hiking shoes because the final rocky section gets quite slippery. Do not forget your swimsuit for a freezing but refreshing dip in the pool!

After this demanding jungle trek, you can return to our permaculture farm. You can relax your tired muscles with our weekly Temazcal sweat lodge ceremony. Or, you can book one of our soothing professional massages. We want you to enjoy every single magical corner of our beautiful island safely.
