Ometepe Island features many incredible places to explore. The famous Ojo de Agua in Ometepe remains a very popular natural attraction for travelers. This beautiful oasis sits perfectly in Santo Domingo, between the majestic Concepción and Maderas volcanoes. Constant underground rivers from the volcanic slopes feed these crystal-clear swimming pools. The mineral-rich volcanic water feels incredibly refreshing after a long jungle hike. We highly recommend adding this relaxing stop to your adventurous travel itinerary.
The Therapeutic Magic of the Volcanic Springs
Local legends say these mineral waters hold the secret to eternal youth. The name literally translates to “The Eye of the Water” in English. When rainwater hits the porous volcanic slopes, it sinks deep into the earth. It absorbs rich minerals before returning to the surface through natural pressure. As soon as you dive into this natural pool, your body feels the therapeutic benefits.
You will find a beautifully maintained tropical garden surrounding the clear water. Tall trees provide perfect shade for a relaxing afternoon in nature. You can spend hours swimming, swinging on the rope, and relaxing comfortably. We encourage our guests to enjoy this magical and serene environment fully.
A Suggested Excursion for Your Island Tour
We want to clarify that El Zopilote Eco Hostel does not organize tours here. However, we enthusiastically suggest visiting this natural wonder completely on your own. You can easily reach the area by renting a reliable vehicle. We highly recommend using the local scooter & motorbike rental service near our entrance.
Riding a scooter gives you total freedom to explore the island safely. You can find detailed information about opening hours directly on their online channels. Please visit the official Ojo de Agua Facebook page for all current visitor details.
After this refreshing trip, you can return to our eco hostel accommodations for the evening. You can also join our weekly Temazcal sweat lodge ceremony to continue your wellness journey. Or, you might want to try our farm-fresh vegan buffet family dinner. Check our activities and courses page for more farm experiences!
